Professor Simon Restubog


Simon Lloyd Restubog is Professor of Management and Organizational Behavior at The Australian National University and Lab Director of the Work Effectiveness & Leadership Lab (www.wellab.org). He earned his PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (2005) from The University of Queensland and his undergraduate double degrees in Psychology and Education (Cum Laude) and Masters degree in Psychology (With High Distinction) from De La Salle University.

His research focuses on antecedents and maintenance of psychological contracts, measurement and prediction of destructive leadership and dysfunctional work behaviors, and barriers and supports for career development. He has won the best paper (micro/OB research) in Group & Orgnization Management and best paper awards at the Annual Conference of the US Academy of Management (AoM, Social Issues in Management Division, 2011; Organizational Development and Change Division, 2007) and the Australian Industrial/Organizational Psychology Conference (2011) and was a Best Paper Finalist in the AoM - Managerial and Organizational Cognitions (2012) and Careers (2013, 2017) Divisions. In terms of teaching, he was a recipient of the ANU Student Award for Top Supervisors and the ANU College of Business & Economics Award for Excellence in Research Supervision. His students have academic appointments in Australia (e.g., ACU, ANU, UNE, ECU, Monash University, QUT, UQ), UK (e.g., University of Sussex), and the US (e.g., University of Vermont) as well as senior and professional appointments in US (The Enirgi Group), Australian (e.g., Commonwealth Bank, Davidson Consulting & HR Solutions, Grant Thornton Australia, Nous Group, Triple P Australia, Westpac) and Norwegian (e.g., Statoil) organisations.

To date, he has produced 81 journal articles, 5 best paper proceedings, and 3 book chapters. His work has been published in leading psychology and management journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organization Studies, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Human Resource Management, British Journal of Industrial Relations, among others.

He has presented his research in Australian, Canadian, Chinese, Dutch, HK, Philippine, Swiss and US universities. His research findings have been cited in media and practitioner outlets such as the Association for Psychological Science, Academy of Management Perspectives, The Australian Financial Review, CPA Australia, The Australian Human Resource Institute, London School of Economics Business Review, Sydney Morning Herald and The Philippine Daily Inquirer.

He has a consistent track record in receiving nationally and internationally competitive external research funding from the Australian Research Council (Discovery & Linkage schemes), National Natural Science Foundation of China,  the Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada. He is currently serving as Associate Editor of the Journal of Vocational Behavior. He is also an editorial board member of the Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business & Psychology, Journal of Management & Organization, and The Asia-Pacific Education Researcher.
